Preventing accidents
Most crashes are not accidents in the sense of being unavoidable. The largest single cause is human error - excessive speed, overtaking where you cannot see, driving under the influence, and fatigue.
The habits that prevent them are unglamorous: keep to a safe speed, hold a gap, signal, look far enough ahead, and do not drive tired or after drinking.
Slow down and give way when a pedestrian is crossing rather than expecting them to hurry.
A driver of a long-distance public vehicle must be relieved after six hours, because a tired driver is as impaired as a drunk one and far more common.
