How do I calculate the fuel cost of a trip?
Divide the trip distance by your vehicle’s mileage (kilometres per litre) to find the litres of fuel needed, then multiply by the current fuel price. The calculator above does this automatically using today’s Nepal Oil Corporation rate.
What mileage figure should I use for my vehicle?
Use your own real-world figure if you know it. As a rough guide, a scooter does around 45–50 km/l, a small petrol car about 15–18 km/l, and a diesel SUV about 12–14 km/l. Actual mileage changes with load, terrain and driving style.
Does the calculator use today’s fuel price?
Yes — it defaults to the latest petrol price published by Nepal Oil Corporation, and you can change it for diesel or any other rate you want to plan around.
Does hilly terrain increase fuel use in Nepal?
Yes. Climbing Nepal’s hill and mountain roads uses noticeably more fuel than flat highway driving, so add a margin to your estimate for mountainous routes.
How can I reduce fuel cost on long drives?
Keep a steady speed, maintain correct tyre pressure, avoid unnecessary weight and long idling, and service the vehicle on time — a clean air filter and healthy engine improve mileage.
