First aid at the scene
The care given at the scene before professional help arrives is FIRST AID, and it decides many outcomes.
Make the scene safe first, then call for help. Do not move an injured person unless leaving them is more dangerous, and never bend or twist someone who may have a spine or neck injury.
Control heavy bleeding with firm pressure. Keep the person warm and talking.
Someone unconscious but breathing goes in the recovery position, on their side, so that vomit cannot choke them. Do not give an injured person food or water.
Artificial respiration is for someone who has stopped breathing - not for someone who is conscious and breathing on their own.
