Starting and stopping
Start with the vehicle in neutral and the handbrake on. Check the mirrors and your blind spot, signal, and only then move off.
Stopping is a sequence, not a single action: ease off the accelerator, brake progressively, press the clutch as you slow, and come to rest before you select neutral and apply the handbrake. Braking hard at the last moment is what puts the vehicle behind into the back of yours.
When you leave the vehicle, secure it. Parking a vehicle safely means leaving it locked, in gear or in park, with the handbrake applied - a vehicle that rolls after you walk away is still your responsibility.
If a fire engine or an ambulance is coming up behind you, give way and let it pass. It is not overtaking you for convenience.
