Defensive driving
Defensive driving is assuming the other road user will do the wrong thing, and leaving yourself room to be right about it.
Look far ahead rather than at the vehicle in front. Most of what you need to react to - a stopping bus, a pedestrian at the kerb, a bike about to pull out - is visible several seconds before it becomes your problem.
Keep a space around the vehicle: ahead, and to the side where you can. Space is the only thing that converts a mistake into a near miss.
Signal every intention, even when the road looks empty. The rider you did not see is the one your signal was for.
